We’re a Creation Justice Church!
Missions & Social Justice Committee (minus Liz Murray) with our new banner!
This spring, Hadwen Park Church was designated a Creation Justice Church by the United Church of Christ national office in Cleveland, based on work the church and its Missions & Social Justice Committee have done – such as adding insulation to our attic, bringing in a recycling dumpster, switching to reusable mugs at coffee hour and other efforts toward becoming more environmentally aware.
The UCC awarded us a banner, and we gathered for group photos after services on Palm Sunday – both the committee and the whole church! Being a greener church is, after all, a whole congregation project, starting with things as basic as using regular dishes at coffee hour instead of paper plates and plasticware, and as complex as having solar panels installed on our roof or building a courtyard around a pollinator vegetable garden on site to help feed the neighborhood (possible future projects!) There are signs in the kitchen with suggestions for doing coffee hour or events in a more intentional way. On May 3, an environmental consultant will lead a program on attracting pollinators to our church and our own yards through the use of native plants.
We invite the congregation to bring their own ideas and embrace our new Creation Justice Church designation! You can learn more about this United Church of Christ initiative here: How It Works: Becoming a Creation Justice Church in Five Steps - United Church of Christ
It’s EASY being green!
